Herbal Bath Teas/Salts

Diamon Naturals' Bath Teas/Salts combine pure, natural herbs with Sea Salt, Epsom Salts, and in some cases Dendritic Salt (to hold the scent, if there are added essential oils). Bath Salts provide relaxation while pampering the skin.  Each is packaged in a cello see-through bag, and comes with a reusable muslin "tea bag" for your tub.  Put 1/4 cup of the herbal bath salts in the muslin bag and place it in your tub as it fills with very hot water. Close the door to keep the aroma in your bathroom, and let the tea steep for at least 15 minutes as the water cools to the temperature of your choice. Light some candles, put on soft, relaxing music and pamper yourself with a delightful bathing experience.

Herbal Baths: Pamper Yourself, Naturally!

An herbal bath transforms your bath into a luxurious beauty treatment, and can be soothing and healing or rejuvenating and refreshing, depending upon your mood and needs. Your skin is the largest organ in your body. A pleasant way of absorbing herbal components through the skin is by relaxing in a full-body bath with an herbal infusion added to the bath water. Any herb that can be taken internally can also be used in a bath, either alone or in combination with other herbs. Herbal baths enable the beneficial effects of the herb to be used over the whole body, while simultaneously utilizing the aromatic value of the herbs. An herbal bath can soften the skin, provide a tonic and correct minor skin disorders.

There are two main methods of using herbs in your bath. The herb mixture can be put into a muslin bag and either hung from the spout while the hot water runs through it or placed in the tub as it fills with water. Use the hottest water possible, close the bathroom door to keep the aroma in the bathroom, and let the tea steep in your tub until the water has cooled to a comfortable temperature. Rub the muslin bag of herbs over your body while bathing, to get every bit of value from the herbs. When finished with the bath, the used herbs can be added to your compost pile and the bag rinsed out, ready for the next bath. Another way to use herbs in your bath is to make a strong infusion or decoction of the herbs (about 1/2 cup of dried herb mixture infused in a pint of boiling water.) Steep for 10-20 minutes, strain and add the liquid to the warm bath water. A decoction uses the same proportions of herbs and water, but the herbs are added to cold water and brought to a boil. This method is used for roots, large stems or woody pieces.

There are many complimentary natural products that can enhance your herbal bath. Epsom salt, also known as magnesium sulfate, is mildly astringent, and increases your circulation and warms tired muscles. Dendritic salt helps to hold the scent of the aromatic oils in the herbs, and is especially beneficial if you add essential oils to your herbal mixture. Baking soda is a gentle alkaline that neutralizes acids. It adds soothing properties to your bath. Oatmeal can be added to any herbal mixture for added benefits to the skin. It is especially soothing for sensitive skin, and has gentle cleansing properties. Essential Oils may also be added to the bath, if desired, bringing more value to your bath with aromatherapy. Do not add more than 8 to 12 drops of Essential Oils to a tub of water. You may smooth herbal-infused oil over your body before your bath for a moisturizing treatment. Brew yourself an herbal tea mixture to sip while you are relaxing in the tub, and enjoy your bathing experience!

The temperature of the bath water is an important factor. Warm water (temps around 98 degrees) soothes and relaxes, while cool water (temps around 80 degrees) stimulates. Be wary of very hot baths (temps around 104 degrees), as this can dehydrate, dry the skin, and exhaust you. High temperature can also be harmful if you have high blood pressure, diabetes or are pregnant.
